TIMONA
Religion is more than just a habit, it's a way of life. It takes presence surrounding us in physical form. These are the premises on which this project has been built.
The scope was to have a home away from home for young girls seeking education. It would fulfill both the simple need for a safe and comfortable shelter, but it would do so much more for the spirit. The spaces have been designed so that they would give intimacy, when needed, but they would also encourage a mindset focused on community and openness towards others.
There is an incremental level of intimacy in the layout of the rooms. The first floor is centered on the tenants vs. public relationships. The reception area is a filter but also a warm welcome. There is a big bright meeting room with direct access to the front courtyard. Cooking classes opened to the public are held on the premises, so we designed a professional kitchen and a neighboring dining area to enjoy.
The first floor is the "mentor's space". Here you can find a chapel for praying, a study for the inquisitive minds, a gathering room, and the lodging of the administrators who also serve as guardians for the young.
The 2nd and 3rd floor are the living quarters of the kids. With full height windows giving views to the tree crowns, the rooms have a playful semblance of a treehouse.
